Springtime in the Blackbelt is prime time for hunting the Eastern Wild Turkey.  Blackbelt Lodge has an great population of turkeys, with trophy gobblers often harvested.  These birds are lightly hunted, and guests have the advantage of knowlegable and skilled guides to help set up and call in that boss tom.

A typical hunt begins with a light breakfast.  Then off to the ridges to hopefully locate a willing tom.  If a bird is gobbling, your guide will set up the best calling location, and will help you call in the gobbler.

Sometimes they just won't gobble early.  Setting up on field edges where the turkey have been feeding is often productive.  Once the hens have gone to the nest, toms are often easier to coax into the decoys and calls.

After the morning hunt, you can try your luck at the bass lakes, while lunch is prepared.  After lunch you can lounge at the lodge, or try an afternoon stalk for a turkey or hog.
